Who was Miles Archer? What sort of detective was Hammet, really? The author investigates a long-dead case, bring the reader along for a ride through a noir landscape replete with all the dangerous dames and double-crosses we love and expect.
I totally recommend this for anyone who ever read and love Hammet, Chandler, or any of those old-school pulp writers.
Absolutely brilliant book of smut, obscenity, and pornography. Nicholson Baker winks at us with the over-the-top language and open, frank look at sexuality in its bare form. I was laughing and blushing through the whole (hole) book.
