Spider-Man: The Other Tpb (Black Costume Cover) by J Micha Straczynski
Spider-Man: The Other Tpb (Black Costume Cover)

James Samson, January 31, 2008

75% amazing, 25% mediocre, three-quarters great storytelling and art and the other quarter just disappointing. The Marvel Knights portion of this collection is perhaps some of the worse would-be comic storytelling ever, and the art is a some of the worst anime one could imagine. If you can push past the "manga" and focus of the other portion of this book, the story really is worth the read.

This is it true believers, the beginning of the ground-breaking Peter David story. These tales redefined what comics should be. Good.

Hulk Visionaries: Peter David: Volume 2 (Marvel Visionaries)

James Samson, January 31, 2008

This is it true believers, the end of the phenomenal Todd McFarlane/Peter David run on the Green/Grey Goliath. Including the most famous Wolverine/Hulk battle, classic graphic novel storytelling. Great story, great art, great all-around.

Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America by Jeph Loeb and John Romita and Leinil Francis Yu and Ed McGuiness
Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America

James Samson, January 31, 2008

A tribute to a legend. Though fictional, Captain America's death is still a profound loss, a symbol of justice and freedom. This tome details the emotions of the citizens of the Marvel universe, as they progress through the stages of grieving, culminating in the Captain's moving funeral.

Captain America by Ed Brubaker Omnibus Volume 1 by Ed Brubaker
Captain America by Ed Brubaker Omnibus Volume 1

James Samson, January 31, 2008

This omnibus collecting Ed Brubaker's run is by far the best collection to be released in the last 10 years. This phenomenal tale redefines what a graphic novel should be, moving, awe-inspiring and thrilling. This novel paints a portrait of a man who needs to be a symbol to many and a hero to all, yet with an underlying internal conflict.
This is a must read for anyone, period.
