In David Wallace’s beautifully writte book “The Klamath Knot: Explorations of Myth and Evolution,” he intertwines myth and science while describing the complex landscape of the Klamath Mountains. He uses a description of the creation of a mountain range to delve into evolution as creation myth. Wallace’s evolutionary mythology is “less orderly than some. It may be chaotic and devious…” (Wallace 2003, 16). He weaves the story of life into epochs named for the universal elements of rock, water, trees and grass. While his beautiful descriptions urge the reader to visit this mountain range, this mixing of science and myth can indeed be chaotic and devious.
