This is one of the best books I have read in recent memory - the author's gift for vivid description and phrasing still stays with me. The story of the three Jones siblings - children, now grown, of a mother who disappeared in a Nebraska tornado - and their divergent lives is told in a realistic yet lyrical way. They are brought back to the small town of Emlyn Springs after the death of their father, one time town doctor and current mayor. Their father has never remarried after their mother's presumed death, but spent 25 years with their presumptive stepmother, Viney. This story explores our ties to family, both living and dead, and the places we inhabit on this earth and in our hearts. Definitely not to be missed!
