The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor by Jake Tapper
The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor

Jill Taylor, January 1, 2013

This wasn't an "I couldn't put it down" book. It was so alive with intensity of feeling, such real-life drama that I had to put it down at times. I picked it right back up when I was ready to be put into the shoes of the troops or their families. Jake Tapper put his heart into The Outpost. I have recommended it to anyone who asked what I've read lately.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett
The Help

I listened to this book and was captivated start to finish. I bought a print copy for my sister, though haven't yet asked if she loved it as much as I did the audio version. All senses are engaged in this book, and all characters live and breathe. No shortcuts have been taken to provide a full and rich story to readers.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

This may be the most original book I've read. It's entertaining and full of truth. The character of Christopher is fully drawn with his straightforward logic and the quirk of his strong superstitions nicely mixed. I read the print version and also listened to the audio. What a treat! It has been my most recommended book for the past few years.
