A harrowing read that carries the reader deep into the worst aspects of humanity, challenging the limits of cruelty and the lows to which we will stoop to serve our self interests. In the end, however, the story is inspiring. One is led to the understanding that as great as our capacity for cruelty is our ability to change and to express compassion. If we can be this bad and still come back, how good could we be if we just gave ourselves the chance?
