This is a beautifully written book by both mother and daughter. Each woman frankly voices her concerns as she faces crossroads in her life. Trips to Greece is the setting of self-discovery, pain, and triumph. While Sue Monk Kidd is facing turning 50 and what that means to a woman who witnesses herself aging, her daughter, Ann Kidd Taylor, is facing what she wants her life to be. She is thinking about a Masters Degree, getting married, and who she is as a woman. All of this takes place with Greece with her history of mother goddesses, Madonna's, and symbolism. It is a story of a mother/daughter relationship which is to be envied and admired. It is history woven with present day lives. I enjoyed the book, the narrative, and the history. I highly recommend it for a woman who is passing through the changes that life produces and wants to hear another woman's view of how she made it through the other side.
This is an amazing story of triumph over what for most would be insurmountably pain and frustration. This young woman, Fauziya Kassindja was able to endure because of her strong religious beliefs, Islamic, her love for her mother and deceased father, and the remarkable team of lawyers who came to her aid. Together with Baha'i Layli Miller Bashir, they changed INS law to declare that FGM as illegal and a reason to come to the United States and request sanctuary.

Rhonda's survival over her own personal trauma has provided her with the knowledge to help others to live and love fearlessly. As a Life Coach I use her material a lot. In fact, I have a book group using her books - this one and Fearless Living, which is also excellent. I recommend her books on my website - www.WiseHeartCoaching.com
Highly recommend that if you read in a group that the leader is trained by Rhonda as I am. Book groups are free. Judith Auslander, Wise Heart Coaching
