The Wednesday Wars by Gary D Schmidt
The Wednesday Wars

Judy Felsenthal, August 20, 2012

The opening sentence of this book made me laugh out loud, and the rest of the story was completely delightful. This story has it all: laughs, tears, fears and love. It's told from the main character's point of view and through his eyes we see his difficult father, his hippie sister, his loyal friends and his tough, caring teacher. The book is set in the 60's, and is full of interesting references to the war, to the protests, and the era itself. As I read this book, I kept stopping to reread parts aloud to my husband. It's that we'll written! Don't miss out on this super young adult novel.
