There are so many Y-A distopian books out there right now, it's tough to know the bad from the good. I've read quite a few and they all seem to be pale wannabes compared to The Hunger Games Trilogy. Then I read "Divergent." It knocked my socks off. It's thrilling, romantic, and contains edge-of-your-seat suspense. The heroine kicks butt. There are enough mysteries and hanging plot threads to propel you to the next book in the series. Yet, it was emotionally satisfying as a stand-alone novel. I zoomed through the book in 3 days. I couldn't put it down yet didn't want it to end. Now, I keep pushing the book into all my friends' hands. Really satisfying and fun novel.
One of the best books I've read all year -- whether for Y-A audiences or adult. It made me laugh, cry, and think big thoughts. What more could you ask from a book? Perfect for book clubs too.
