After reading Wright's "Surprised by Hope" this book felt like the practical sequel. If the good news is so good, then what does that mean for our lives? In some ways, the pursuit of virtue is a more mundane topic than the heavenly hopes of eschatology, but at the same time much more important. Wright lays out Christian virtue creatively and with his solid prose. Even if the subject matter is less exciting than his previous book, this may be much more of an important book for Christian living.
Give McDougall some grace for waxing romantic, and what is found is a humorous, somewhat existential adventure into the world of distance running. IS it inspirational? Depends on your definition - sure it'll make you want to run, but more significantly it will make you feel like you have to.
