Superbad: Theatrical Version (Widescreen)

I'm not a big fan of 'coming of age' films. I liked the movie 'Knocked Up' tho I didn't appreciate the title. There were funny parts, but is glamorizing teenage boys trying to score booze and unsafe sex a good thing?

21 (Single Disc Version) (Widescreen)

Watched this last night with friends - we ALL enjoyed it - very good. Better than I thought it would be. I'm no slouch at Math, these kids have me beat! I thoroughly appreciated the ending of the movie, and I'm going to read the book to see how it REALLY ended. ;)

Stop Loss (Widescreen)

Karen Hoover, August 3, 2008

I disagree with some of the comments by Grady - this was a good movie about a tightly knit group of men brought together by a war not of their making, trying to survive the horrors they experienced, celebrating the good parts of their experience (their 'band of brothers) trying to retain who they are throughout the experiences. And agonizing over decisions and the loss of their friends. Which the main character tries to explain to the character 'Mich'. I watched this with my friends Sherri and her husband Terry, an Army vet who served in Viet Nam. He thanked me for bringing it, that he thoroughly enjoyed it.

If it is confusing for you in parts when he is citing code to his Commander about how he shouldn't be 'Stop-Loss'ed - watch it a few times. They did a very good job, and Military Law is very confusing.

Circle Trilogy #01: Morrigan's Cross by Nora Roberts
Circle Trilogy #01: Morrigan's Cross

Karen Hoover, August 3, 2008

I regret that '5' is the highest rating I can give! My apologies to Ms. Roberts - Nora, Girlfriend - I admit I had doubts regarding your ability to write a 'genuine' vampire book. I was wrong. You had me at 'Chapter 1'. I am devouring the second book - 'Dance of the Gods'. 'Morrigan's Cross' ended much too quickly for me, I am SO glad I had the second book already so I can continue to follow the hair-raising journey of our main characters as they battle the rising evil. Forget 'Interview with the Vampire' - there's a whole new STAR in vampire lore!

The Last Boleyn by Karen Harper
The Last Boleyn

Karen Hoover, June 28, 2007

Karen Harper is an excellent story teller, as well as author. Mary Boleyn's story is not as well known as her sister Anne, Mary's tale is important also. Ms. Harper tells of an overly ambitious father who uses his greatest assets to gain access to power: the beautiful women in his family. His wife refused the king's bed, much to Thomas Boleyn's dismay. As Mary matured from a beautiful child to hints of the beautiful woman she would become, Papa begins. He plots the path that leads from Hever Castle at the tender age of 8, to the court in as a 'lady in waiting' to young Mary Tudor, in France. As she matures, Thomas places Mary where she will be noticed by King Henry VIII. What follows is more than the brief mention Mary has received in literature thus far. Life in the Court of King Henry VIII as told by an insider was a very interesting place!
