The Devil's Highway is a beautifully, excruciatingly told tale of emigration-immigration. It should be required reading for all legislators in Arizona who voted to criminalize those with the "look" of undocumented immigrants and to redefine ethnic studies classes as efforts to overthrow the U.S. government — and for legislators considering immigration legislation. It is a cold, hard heart that is not rendered a wee bit more tender toward undocumented immigrants by reading this book.
