The Tastemakers: Why We're Crazy for Cupcakes But Fed Up with Fondue by David Sax
The Tastemakers: Why We're Crazy for Cupcakes But Fed Up with Fondue

KittyCee, October 29, 2014

The photo of the bacon-topped cupcake on the cover captured my eye right away! This book about food trends is both informative and entertaining! I never realized just how a trend emerges (think chia seeds or green smoothies) from blazing-new-idea to the mainstream culture. David Sax explores many aspects of food trends, particularly underlying dimensions such as behavioral dynamics, social media, celebrities, and more. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on food trucks and the ruckus their presence caused in Washington, DC (where I used to live and work--before there were real food trucks). :-)

Think Like a Pancreas: A Practical Guide to Managing Diabetes with Insulin by Gary Scheiner
Think Like a Pancreas: A Practical Guide to Managing Diabetes with Insulin

KittyCee, October 25, 2014

As a newly diagnosed Type 1.5 diabetic, I was in urgent need of additional information on how to manage my health care. Think Like a Pancreas was recommended to me as a comprehensive and very readable (and reliable!) source of information, particularly on basal/bolus dosing of insulin, and totally fit the bill! I highly recommend this book!

Mink River by Brian Doyle
Mink River

KittyCee, January 16, 2013

Mink River is poetry-in-prose. Author Brian Doyle creates a familiar yet magical setting and I was utterly charmed within the first 20 pages.
