I started and finished A Sense of Direction in one evening; I couldn't really stop thinking about it, so I couldn't put it down. I found it...

I guess I'm going to do little more than join the crowd--though I am glad to see others enjoyed this novel as much as I did. Loved the story, characters, and writing. The suspense was thrilling AND believable. Tom Rob Smith, how far along is your next book?

My sweetie preordered this book for me for my birthday because this is the kind of story I loved as a child, and Flavia is the kind of kid that I so wanted to be. It's still the kind of book and character I love.
Though I considered staying up all night reading the book after it arrived, I ended up carrying it around a while because I didn't want it to end. This hardcover edition even looks and and feels like the mysteries of my youth. Good thing the story and writing lived up to my expectations--this book is a complete gift.

I started this book a while ago and then, as too often happens, from no fault of the book, I got distracted from it. But needing to return it to a colleague ASAP, I picked it up again on a break from work today. And could. Not. Put. It. Down. Finished the just-under 200 pages like *that*. Not that one *should* read this book quickly--the writing is magic, lyrical and twisted up, some gems apparent, others hidden and demanding to be unwrapped and fully appreciated. But a person will want to read quickly and may give in to that, as I did, because this book is just so unique and beautiful and disturbing. One tumbles, gasping, through it.

I've long known about Lee Child, and his standing in the thriller world, but I only just finished the first book I've ever read of his. If this one is indicative of his others, I understand the hype! Smart story; unique style. A page turner that keeps the reader guessing. Bonus: Child transcends "genre writing" to include some narrative gems that indicate he's simply a good writer, overall. I'm not one to draw a thick line between "genre" and "not genre"--I think it's rarely that clear-cut--but my previous sentence is a shorthand way to explain what I mean.
