Although this book is fairly dry, it still reveals a fantastic story about the people and place of Seattle. The photographs within it are particularly compelling.
The author showed his humility in coming to a culture that was new to him, which allowed me to feel more relaxed about my own weaknesses in understanding the culture. After this, he continued to go into great depth about the Western Apache, the place, the landscape, the people, and his personal journey within it all.
I read this book for two classes, and I enjoyed it both times. There is so much in it, and the interdisciplinary weave of ideas allowed me to come away with different ideas both times.
Such a spellbound, captivating read, this book gave me a better understanding of vodou and its cultural connections. If more people read this, fewer misrepresentations of vodou would be in existence.
I felt that I could strategically change the world, at least in small ways to start, after reading this book. It outlined how to make change in many clear and distinct ways.
