Animal Farm: A Fairy Story by George Orwell
Animal Farm: A Fairy Story

Kyle Rakoz, August 7, 2012

I first picked up Animal Farm about 20 years ago and loved this little fairy tale! A few years later, it was required reading in school and I learned what the story was really all about with the help of my English teacher at the time (thanks Mr. Nolan!). Now, with myself as the teacher, I love to unlease this powerhouse on my Language Arts and Government students.

In today's world, with the far right starting to look an awful lot like the far left, this cautionary tale, showcases the best and worst of "humanity". Orwell crafts a simple story that appeals to all ages: children, teenagers, and their parents and teachers alike. Although the story is simple the message is not and is sure to make you take a look in the mirror and ask yourself how long you will spend on Animal Farm.
