What a wonderful journey through the sciences, as told by a Angier, a supremely witty and astute tour guide! I can't recommend this book highly enough.
Visually, this movie is a stunner---absolutely beautifully shot and animated. But as far as story development... what a yawn. I was really disappointed that two-thirds of the way through I simply didn't care anymore. Sure, the girl loves the big ape; sure, the producer wants to exploit the unbelievable beast. We get it! Don't beat us over the heads, for the love of Mike. Would I recommend it to friends? Well, yes. But I'd offer the caveat that one should plan on washing the dog or making dinner about halfway through.

This book is utterly fascinating. Granted, it helps if you have some basis of interest in nature studies, ravens or birds, and/or brain physiology to find Heinrich's writing as riveting as I -- but, indeed, riveted you'll be! Heinrich covers a wealth of information about ravens and their habits, habitats, and astounding brains. These birds are truly remarkable, smart characters, and this book does them justice.
