I read this book last summer and it is interesting to see a different picture of World War II from a Pacifist's eyes. The reader also gets a view of what it was like to live on the home front during the war. We get such rare glimpses of that; how people were thinking and what people were doing. These men in the internment camps were intellectuals such as painters, poets, and politicians. They remind me of the ex patriots of Paris during the 1920s such as Hemingway and James Joyce. There is a lot going on in this thin, little book!
I just finished reading "Little Miss Strange" by Joanna Rose and I enjoyed this narrative tale of a girl growing up in the late 60's, early 70's. It is not over-the-top in it's portrayal of the hip generation, and yet it gives a clear picture of what life really was like for young people of this time. I highly recommend it to mature high school age students and adults. The character's voice is strong and artfully done. It truly draws the reader into the story.
