It was a fine July evening, and while enjoying the balmy Kentucky summer on patio with a small heard of young academics, we convinced Michelle to perform a dramatic reading of this seminal work of children's literature. We were all reduced to tears of joy and mirth by the merciless prose of Adam Mansbach. The illustrations are stunningly beautiful, and actually quite charming. A great gift for any parent with a sense of humor (I sent it to my cousin with a two year old girl), or even as a coffee table book (or as text for dramatic readings).

Not your typical, cut and dry cook book... no.. .it's much more. This gem of a cocktail guide reads more like a letter from a good friend who also happens to include some great cocktail recipes and tidbits of information along the way. Victoria Moore is a woman who appreciates a good cocktail, and for that I respect her immensely. I try not to let our mutual love of Campari and, subsequently, the Negroni skew my opinion too far, but it's hard. If you were hoping for a book full of shot recipes with lude names, look somewhere else. If you're looking for a good companion with insights into the proper way to make a 'G&T', the proper time to drink Pimm's Cup no 6, and a good large volume punch recipe, then... well.. cheers!

Truly a stunning book by a stunning woman. Thoughtful, truthful, and free of the cloying romanticism that most contemporary food writing suffers from. As someone who works with farmers, I find she perfectly captures that which I love about agriculture in America, and why the small farm is a vital component of our national identity. This book is at once lyrical and factual, and it is not surprising to learn that her photography is equally as stunning, as I imagine her visual and literary eye inform each other.
