There are only a few books out of the hundreds I have read in the last decade that I feel should maintain a permanent place on my bookshelves and which is worthy of being re-read. The Shadow of the Wind is one of these with a wonderful cast of characters, a mystery interwoven within a distinctive historical period and a love story. So worth reading!
This is one of those books that I recommend constantly and all ages find it fascinating. The story of a young boy with autism, trying to solve the mystery of the dog in the neighbor's yard, lets one into the mind of the child. This increased my personal understanding of children who suffer from autism, and besides that, it is an AWESOME read! Fascinating and difficult to put down once you have started it.
Set in World War II Holland, Tamar is the code name for the Dutch spy, trained in England and returned to Holland to help unite all the resistance forces against the Nazis. This novel is full of suspense, romance, and the horrors of war. Tamar falls in love with a young woman who is in the resistance, and his best friend, whose code name is Dart also falls in love with her. A puzzle leads to a very satisfying surprise that brings the story to a close that will keep you enthralled until the end. While this book may be geared toward young adults, it spans many generations and adults should also read it.
