Blue Has No South by Alex Epstein
Blue Has No South

Liz Mariani, January 29, 2012

I'm picky about poetry, really. I originally came across this book in Vancouver, BC at the Vancouver Public Library. I couldn't put it down. As a poet myself, I found the wordplay, spirit and rhythm of these words (in translation) held enormous power. In fact, the book, itself, felt like a promise. Now, I have to purchase it. It's a keeper. If you liked Janet Frame's "The Edge of the Alphabet", you'll love this book. Blue Has No South reminds me, at least, that words are more than words, they chime memories, thoughts, hopes as if we are not people but old harps. It's good. I can't wait to have it to keep.
