This noir-ish first novel is an unusually well-written piece of genre fiction. I especially enjoyed the author's nuanced approach to characterization; there is dimension even to some of the more ancillary figures in the story.
I'd say this is probably the best mystery novel I've read this year, and the author is absolutely going on my watch list. I've heard good things about his previous short story collection as well, so I look forward to checking that out too.
