I just finished reading ?Barn Burning, Barn Building,? the recently released book by Ben Barnes. Barnes is a former Texas Representative, House Speaker and Lt. Governor in Texas in the 1960s. His book recounts the wild ride of the Democrats in those turbulent times. Vietnam was in full swing, racism was a plague in the south, JFK had been shot, and Ben Barnes was in the trenches of it all.
The book is easy to follow, engaging and kept me interested from cover to cover. Barnes is a great story teller and the book is full of anecdotes, lessons learned and lessons taught.
Ben Barnes identifies problems with our nation?s leaders and instead of criticizing, he actually offers solutions. Our leaders and voters (on both sides of the fence) should read this book carefully and take copious notes. Finally someone has the courage to speak out against the sickening trend of violent verbal partisanship?hopefully it?s not too late.
