Saltation (Liaden Universe Novel)
Saltation (Liaden Universe Novel)

Louis, April 7, 2010

I am a fan of Sharon Lee and Steve Miller mostly for the way that they develop characters so that they seem real. I know and like Theo Waitley. I followed her through Fledgling and now Saltation. Theo and her family and friends seem real to me and the plot is fast moving and tightly woven. The lead character is teen-age though the writing level is satisfying to a mature audience.
But then I didn't expect any less from Sharon and Steve.

Home Machinists Handbook by Doug Briney
Home Machinists Handbook

Louis, April 7, 2006

This is an average entry-level machine shop book. It is a light introduction to a number of topics but does not go into depth in any one topic. This broad brush approach could be preparation for a first course in Machine Shop at a technical institute. If the reader has no knowledge of machine shop this will whet an appetite for more. I am a beginner home shop hobby machinist with little experience who has recently completed the first two semesters of machine shop at a junior college. I found nothing to disagree with in the book just that it says too little about everything.
