Read this book! It's fun and funny and amazing and even a bit shocking to discover what really goes on where no man has gone before. Much more than everything you ever wanted to know about space travel and life in a low gravity environment. Mary Roach leaves no stone unturned in her quest to understand what astronauts experience moment to moment outside Earth's gravitational pull.
I love Connie Willis, but it's not a relationship where she can do no wrong. Sometimes she goes over long or belabors a metaphor. Her book Passages is a good example. This book had me worried that she was doing it again, but she pulls it together and leaves off with a real cliffhanger. She's good with page turning plotting and 3D characterizations. Recommended to historical fiction and time travel fans. Can't wait to read the next book!
I just loved this book. Howard Bahr's prose is beautiful.
The story of the battle of Franklin, Tennessee in 1864 towards the end of the US Civil War is a true event. It's a blood bath for the Confederate Army and the novel takes place at the home of the McGavock family. Their house was used as a makeshift hospital.
The story is all fiction, but the author brings everything to life in such vivid detail in the midst of all the suffering of the battle and its aftermath.
Highly recommended.
The Declaration of Independence for writers!
One of three books I use when I teach writing, this book has timeless advice to all writers, no matter what level.
Highly recommended.
I only use 3 books to teach writing. This is one of them.
I still use it regularly for my own writing practice!
It has some of the best short writing prompts and is thoughtful and encouraging for beginning and experienced writers.
