Almost Perfect by Susan Mallery
Almost Perfect

Marilyn Shoemaker, June 29, 2010

No one writes a love story like author Susan Mallery as it’s not only the romance, it’s how she creates strong characters who tug at your heart. They are beautiful stories about family and how they work through their secrets, hurts, misunderstandings, but in the end they worked through their “stuff” giving them that happy ending they so desperately needed. And that’s how the author takes her readers on the journey that makes Mallery’s Almost Perfect” a perfect romance”. In this case Susan Mallery not only gave the hero and heroine their happy ending, she also gave her son and her nieces the loving home they all deserved.

As the old saying goes “when fate hands you a lemon, make lemonade” and that’s what happened to Liz Sutton when the love of her life Ethan Hendrix denied knowing her, telling his friends he would never date a girl like her. Liz was a sweet young woman who had grown up on the wrong side of the tracks with a mother who was not only a drunk but had a different man in her bed every night. On top of that her mother was abusive to her and the town’s residents of Fools Gold instead of stepping in chose to ignore how she was being raised. Liz was extremely smart, and tried to ignore the barbs and rumors that she was a “slut”. The only positive thing in her life was Nathan, the boy she loved, the same boy who promised they would be together in college. And then in front of his friends he hurt her by denying their relationship and Liz left Fools Gold and went to San Francisco.

Chasing Perfect by Susan Mallery
Chasing Perfect

Marilyn Shoemaker, June 29, 2010

Chasing Perfect by New York Times best selling author Susan Mallery was a charming and spectacular read about a small town named Fools Gold, California, a town that had more women then men, a town with people who cared about and helped each other. A town determined not to go under and to succeed because the town needed to band together under the guidance of their major, city planner, and the town hero to make sure they could bring new businesses into their community and along with that…… men!

After reading a few chapters I was immediately drawn into the story due to very strong main and secondary characters. As with all of Mallery’s books, Chasing Perfect was no different because the main theme was about family, friendships, love and home. I also found this particular story had secrets, twists, turns, and even some suspense. Chasing Perfect did not disappoint me, it made me not want the story to end nor have to wait for the next books in the upcoming series.

The Marcelli Princess (Marcelli Sisters) by Susan Mallery
The Marcelli Princess (Marcelli Sisters)

Marilyn Shoemaker, April 10, 2007

so glad I was one of those readers and fan of Susan's Mallery who asked for Mia's story and I wasn't disappointed! I loved the Marcelli series and Mia's story was no exception. It was delightful, entertaining, shed a few tears. However, what I most loved about this book was it brought out Susan Mallery's charm and sense of humor!

Mia plus her sisters taking on a crown Prince? If you've read the series, then one would appreciate this aspect and the family dynamics. That's the appeal of the series and this particular book.......Mia, her son, the crown prince and the Marcelli family.

As for lessons, there are many to be learned like what's important in life, what does love really mean to a person? What can respect, love and determination bring into a relationship? Not to mention, family values, traditions and holding each member close and dear to each of them.

The book for me was a wonderful ending. I thought Mia was strong, fierce, determined and passionate. As for Crown Prince Rafael, he was brought to his knees by Mia and her family! Loved it!

Again, Susan Mallery has delivered a wonderful story and series and one I shall long remember! Thank you Susan.

Harlequin Presents #2600: A Mistress for the Taking by Annie West
Harlequin Presents #2600: A Mistress for the Taking

Marilyn Shoemaker, November 21, 2006

All I can say is that author, Annie West has a brilliant career ahead of her if A Mistress for the Taking is any indication. This is Marina and Ronan's story set in beautiful Australia and full of passion, I guarantee!

Marina has taken care of her family for most of her life. Over the past year she and her father were in an accident, one in which she injures her leg and her father dies. This leaves Marina and her brother to run the family business in which her brother makes very bad choices and they stand to loose it because he gambled it away. Marina confronts the ruthless Mr. Wakefield, the man who has stolen it only to be embarrassed at a cocktail party attended by the rich and famous.

However, she is rescued by the tall, dark and very mysterious Ronan. Ronan has a plan, a plan to help Marina and gain revenge on the man who has brought pain to one of his family. He is also very drawn and attracted to Marina and talks her into portraying his mistress. However, the tables are turned on both Marina and Ronan as neither of them counts on their own attraction for each other.

Their journey in finding each other and love will absolutely take your breath away. Congratulations to Ms. Annie west on her first Modern Romance, it was a fabulous read!

A Virgin for the Taking by Trish, Morey
A Virgin for the Taking

Marilyn Shoemaker, November 21, 2006

Zane and Ruby?s journey to finding happiness was full of road blocks. Mistrust, secrets and a passion so powerful at times it was painful to read.

Zane is returning home to make peace with his father, only to find out that he has passed away and won?t get the chance to speak with his father and heal old wounds. Instead, he finds the lovely and beautiful Ruby who he believes was his father?s mistress. If that?s not enough when his father?s will is read, he discovers they will both have to run the Bastiani Pearl Corporation.

The story is set on the beautiful Gold Coast. It is evident that this author has done her research on the countryside and the pearl industry. The reader is taken on the journey of discovering and learning about pearls, design and the business itself.
Zane is a savvy businessman and Ruby a designer. Together they make an incredible team but would they agree? No, because there is mistrust, and way too many secrets between them along with such a powerful attraction they cannot deny. The reader is taken on a journey of discovery, passion and pain, one to be remembered for a long time.

I so enjoyed reading this wonderfully crafted story. I loved the way Trish Morey shows her readers that the power of love can heal all wounds and bring so much joy!
