The Uspc Guide to Bandaging Your Horse by Susan E. Harris
The Uspc Guide to Bandaging Your Horse

Mary Abercrombie, November 18, 2008

I have had horses for years but have always had to rely on others for wrapping and bandaging. Luckily, they were not needed very often. However, this year I decided it was time to get down to business and learn for myself. As with all of Harris' books, the illustrations and instructions are concise and easy to follow. Not only does this book instruct you on the different types, purposes, and materials used for bandaging, but there are also product suggestions, instructions for making your own, as well as illustrations for how to store your bandages. The chapter on leg health is also very helpful in giving you an understanding of why, when, and with what, we should bandage. Susan Harris also emphasizes the importance of correct bandaging (poor bandaging can be more harmful than not bandaging at all) and the need to have an expert assist you until you are proficient.
With this book, I feel I have a much clearer understanding of the mechanics of bandaging and have much more confidence. This book also gives me a better idea of my own abilities and when it would be better left to my vet or instructor. All in all, an excellent book, lots of very good information at a terrific price, and I highly recommend it for any horse person, young or old.
