Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power by Jon Meacham
Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power

Mary Young, January 1, 2013

Excellent, but troubling. How can we demand a strict constructionist interpretation of the Constitution, knowing how the Founding Fathers were so terribly corrupted by power and it's trappings? Meacham, who seems to admire his subject for very good reasons, is still aware and unafraid of the implications of Jefferson's shortcomings and their effect on our lives now. A gripping and fascinating read!
