Brilliant. This book exposes glaring problems in modern medicine. A comical satire it is a must read for anyone whether they be considering a career in medicine or are already in the game. Samuel Shem (Pen name) is a very well respected doctor in the health care community. This book chronicles the first year of an Intern and shares with the reader the successes and failures that they endure.

Borne out of a conference in Melbourne bringing together students of Blanchot from across various shores, in late August 2004, and dedicated to "furthering the horizons of Blanchot studies, and to do so through collaborations that transgress national as well as disciplinary boundaries," this is certainly an essential volume for serious students of literary philosophy extending from Benjamin to Derrida, or of so-called "continental" thought generally (Colloquy 10, 2005).
Leslie Hill is also the author of an important book on Blanchot entitled, "Extreme Contemporary."
