Un Lun Dun by China Mieville
Un Lun Dun

Matthew Vanderlaan, March 29, 2009

Un Lun Dun is a fairy tale for everyone. Mieville's creative use of of everything in the novel is at once charming and wholly original. The twists are genuinely surprising and the book maintains a perfect balance between surrealist comedy and topical morality. I think kids would love it as much as adults.

Looking for Jake: Stories by China Mieville
Looking for Jake: Stories

Matthew Vanderlaan, March 29, 2009

An excellent collection of New Weird fiction. A general trend of post apocalypse fiction thrown in with a lot of "edge of reality" kind of stories. To say the least, I was a bit nervous around normal things after this book. Mieville is the master of making the mundane startling unnatural.
