Deep Green Resistance: Strategy to Save the Planet by Aric McBay and Lierre Keith and Derrick Jensen
Deep Green Resistance: Strategy to Save the Planet

Mikey C, January 17, 2012

REVIEW OF DEEP GREEN RESISTANCE

Aric McBay, Lierre Keith and Derrick Jensen have, with their book Deep Green Resistance, done what no other author or group of authors has ever done. Indeed no sane author would even think about doing what these three have done. They have written the very last book that needs to be written. After this everyone needs to put all of their books neatly on the shelf and turn their backs on them. I am a lifelong reader. I have loved reading ever since I was 3 years old. My goal in grade school was to read every book in the library. I have read and enjoyed thousands of books so for me to say put the books away is not something I say lightly.
Reading Deep Green Resistance is like standing on a cliff above a deep pool of water. You want to jump because it looks fun and exciting but what if there is something just beneath the surface? What if there is a rock or the pointed end of a long dead tree? What if you were smashed to bits on that rock or impaled on the tree? What if, what if...? Put the book away or give it to someone you love. Turn around. Open your eyes and jump. It's our only hope.
It is time for all the readers to put down their books. It is time for all the writers to turn off their computers. It is time for all the radio hosts to turn off their microphones. It is time for all the TV show hosts to shut off the lights. It is time for all the documentary film makers to put down their cameras. We have all the information we need. We don't need to know, anymore, why the banks are bad, we don't need to know what shenanigans the politicians are up to, we don't need to know who wins The Biggest Loser. Truth be told if we don't act now we will all be the biggest losers.

Endgame Vol.2 by Derrick Jensen
Endgame Vol.2

Mikey C, January 2, 2012

As concern for the environment and the survival of the planet become more widespread and vital each day Derek Jensen presents an alternative to protests and attempting to work within the system. His solution goes well beyond the placebo of 50 Things You Can Do to Help the Planet. His premise, should you accept it, will demand of each of us a commitment to taking responsibility not only for our lives but for the lives of all living things. This book is a must read.
