Fifty Shades Trilogy: Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, Fifty Shades Freed 3-Volume Boxed Set by E. L. James
Fifty Shades Trilogy: Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, Fifty Shades Freed 3-Volume Boxed Set

MsB, February 7, 2013

It is what it is. Reading for a pool day or a layover. I read it...two days. I talked about it...two weeks. It was hot at the nail salons, morning Starbucks.

It has more historical interest than literary merit. A breakthrough into Costco of a growing trend in brown package delivery from secure sites. It is Harliquin romance with an edge, porn with a plot, nothing more or less.

It is great need of an edit...single characters sport different names, the geography is flawed, and cliches run rampant. The question becomes the best of what.

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades Trilogy #1) by E. L. James
Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades Trilogy #1)

MsB, January 14, 2013

I understand that this series is a 'cultural phenomenon' , but to find it on any 'best' list is an eye opener. It is sadly in need of an editor as a spell checker and fact checker. The syntax is repetitive...endlessly. The text is awash in cliche....after several chapters, cliches it creates itself.

It begins as something a bit novel, but by the end of the first book has become naught but a version of an old fashioned Harliquin Romance with an overlay.

I read it; I had conversations about it all over town. That it exists is of interest, nothing more
