Original and well-written epic fantasy. Lord Foul's Bane, the first book of the series: "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever" will keep you reading late into the night. A real page turner, it never slows down. This powerful and complex story comes alive with deeply believable characters whom you'll come to care about. Thank goodness that after you finish this book, there are still two more books to this series. And then...3 more books in "The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" which again fully captured the magic of the first trilogy. After many years, Stephen Donaldson has recently returned to this character in "The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" which is to be a 4 book series. The first two books of which are already in print. He is not a Tolkien wanabee. The Thomas Covenant books are totally original. But, if you enjoy Tolkien, you'll be thrilled at finding a whole new fantasy world to love.
