This is my vote for the best book I read in the last ten years. I read this 6 years ago just as I took a new job as editor at the Minnesota Historical Society Press; and now, as Press director, I read it again over Thanksgiving break--the end of a very long and trying 2009. A beautiful history of the West, an honest love story, an epic tribute to the American spirit.
