This short, spare novel about a Japanese-American family being sent to an internment camp during World War II packs a huge emotional punch. It makes you realize how horribly unfair the internment of Japanese citizens was and how it disrupted and affected their lives long after the war.

The Monk mystery books by Lee Goldberg are wonderful. The way Mr. Goldberg writes, you can just hear all of the characters talk as if you're watching an episode, which is especially great now that the show is unfortunately over. This Monk book is my favorite yet, set in the old "Gold Country" of California, past and current time.
This is a great guide for eliminating animal products in your diet at your own pace. Ms. Silverstone does a great job at explaining the many health and environmental benefits of a meatless diet, and her obvious passion and dedication make this book a real winner. Not to mention the many delicious recipes, including desserts. It's great for those starting out, as well as long-term vegetarians and vegans. I've been a vegetarian for 20 years, and it's helping me finally make the transition to vegan.
