Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut
Player Piano

P R, January 5, 2009

Life imitates art. We are fast becoming a society of displaced workers- displaced not only by machines but also by the outsourcing of our jobs. In true Vonnegut style, even his first book is a relevant as ever. It is a must-read for anyone who is entering the business world, works in it or has retired from it.

Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson
Housekeeping

P R, January 5, 2009

Marilynne Robinson's "Housekeeping" should be savored like fine wine- drink it in slowly to appreciate the nuances. Like all other prose-poetry, it not just about the story, it is also about the language that tells the story. This fine little book is filled with rich images and bone-achingly sad lives that are filled with possibilities.

I Like You: Hospitality under the Influence by Amy Sedaris
I Like You: Hospitality under the Influence

P R, December 10, 2008

With humor, style and wit, Amy guides us through the ins and outs of hosting the un-hostable. I laughed myself silly and then fixed some fabulous meals using her recipes. From the simple (Whiskey Dick's Baked Chicken) to the sublime (coconut cream pie) to the witty (How do you remove a wine stain? You don't. Boil your garment in a pot of hot chopped beets and water)you just gotta love this woman!
