A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson
A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail

Pamela, June 26, 2007

A brilliant, funny, insightful walk through the heart of America. I laughed, I thought twice, I was humbled by his ability to tell such a magnificent story, and I learned so much. I'll read it again, and again. You'd be wise, and grateful, to do the same.

Marker by Robin Cook
Marker

Pamela, March 25, 2007

This is a terrifying example of Big Business in the medical field gone wrong, but thank goodness, fictional. Laurie and Jack, the medical examiners, bring about a very human touch to the relationship of medicine at it's best with their personalities and fears about the present and future. Genetics is at the heart of the personal problem, but the suspense covers the entire spectum of potential elective surgery. This book was a page turner on several levels and still another book by Robin Cook that I could not put down until I finished it. The pace accellerated and once caught up into it, I had to see it to the end as rapidly as I could... I will reread this one.

Comfortable with Uncertainty: 108 Teachings on Cultivating Fearlessness and Compassion by Pema Chodron
Comfortable with Uncertainty: 108 Teachings on Cultivating Fearlessness and Compassion

Pamela, June 12, 2006

What a wonderful introduction to Buddhist principles. Eastern thought put into terms we westerners can relate to. Not watering it down at all but helping us to find the path of compassion for ourselves and others.
