CloudWorld is a unique novel that is a brilliant read. It is obvious that the author, David Cunningham has an amazing imagination.
The style in which the novel is written in is fantastic. The way the author describes the beautiful imagery of the world draws you in making you actually believe you are there above and below the clouds
The plot is well developed with many twists and turns along the way. There is everything from action, adventure, humour, romance and battles. It has a slow start and you may think after the first few chapters that this is nothing special. But stick with it after the first few chapters it becomes so fast paced and gripping that you won't be able to put it down.
The characters are well developed and believable most of the time. Although the lead character, Marcus, can appear to be a little too brave and smart on occasions.
All in all, I found this book so gripping I read it in one night. It is a fantastic story set in a realistic world with believable characters. Its destined to become a cult classic.

Someone persuaded me to read this saying it was a fantastic book. While it is an good read it is not fantastic.
The trouble is it is just too slow at times. I like a book that is a real page turner, fast paced that you just can't put down. This is definately not one of them. While there were some fast moving chapters others seemed so slow and uneventful.
Another problem with the book was the footnotes. I gave up reading these abouth halfway through. It wouldn't have been so bad if it was just a sentence but some were entire paragraphs and by the time I had finished reading it I had lost my way in the book which was very irritating.
I loved the Bartimaeus character but all the others really had a lack of depth and were'nt developed well enough.
All this aside its not to say this wasn't an enjoyable read. The change in perspective and viewpoints kept things interesting enough and the Bartimaeus chapters had a witty, dry humour about them. The plot itself though not entirely original was done in a way that made it seem so.
All in all It was an average read.

The Cry Of The Icemark has to be one of the best debuts I have ever read. As soon as you start reading it sucks you in and never lets go until the finish.It has a fantastic narrative thrust. At times you can not put it down because you just want to know what happens next. It has everything from action, adventure, humour and romance. The plot is original. I loved the way Stuart Hill Has adopted a diffrent approach for the traditional enemies of Vampires and Werewolves and made them into allies. The talking giant Snow Leopards are a great creation. The Characters are well drawn up and developed brilliantly. But where this book really comes into its own is in the battle scenes. You will not find more intelligently thought up and brought to life battle scenes in any other book.
All in all this is destined to be a classic.
