I have been a fan of Mary Oliver and her work for many years, and I own every one of her books. I had the privilege of meeting her, just a few years ago, and it was like meeting a poem.
This book doesn't disappoint. Mary only gets better.
Rock on, Mary!

I was interested in reading this book, from the moment I saw the cover with its hiking boot, all well-worn and tattered. I love to hike and backpack, and I wanted to learn more about a woman alone on a backpacking adventure, a big backpacking adventure!
Cheryl had never backpacked before, and she decides she will take on the Pacific Coast Trail (PCT), as her first backpacking excursion. She had recently lost her mother, and she was newly divorced. She needed to find her center and balance once again.
You won't believe the obstacles she had to overcome on the way to herself.
I highly recommend this book, if you are an avid hiker, backpacker, or you long to do these things. You will enjoy this book and Cheryl's style of writing.
This is a book that was overlooked by a lot of people. It is a tender story of love, conflict and deceit. The Gift of Rain tells a riveting and poignant tale about a young man caught in the tangle of wartime loyalties and deceits. It is a book that is beautifully written with wonderful prose. It's a great story, and is one of my favorites of 2010.
