Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris
Letter to a Christian Nation

PssDerrida, October 4, 2006

I think the point is (Jimmytree, is it?)...that no one is "all knowing" and this includes you...so why did you give in to faith? When you do not know, that is...why is believing without reason somehow a superior stance to the non-believer? I am human, I just want to understand something before accepting it as truth. I bought this book at Powell's in PDX and read it flying back to Newark. Mr. Harris is trying to begin a conversation between people like you and people like me. There would be no need for this conversation if religion really was as peaceful and loving as it claims to be. My notion of religion is that times have changed, and religion is like a baby-sitter of youthful man that won't leave. Students can out grow their teachers, man can certainly out grow it's baby-sitter. Or maybe I can throw that all aside and believe in the supernatural, like you. Sounds kinda like giving up, to me. Keep in mind I can learn from the good book without believing the supernatural parts, just as I can learn from any text. This is a small, straight forward text and perfect for reading thousands of feet in the air. Thanks Mr. Harris.
