A multi-layered look writing, writer, character & story. How does a character come into being? Does the author pick the character? If so, from where? Or does the character pick the author? How? Is there a relationship between the creator & the created? What is the nature of that relationship? Is it one of master & servant & if so: who is master & who the servant? How is the story created? Does the character effect the plot & story development? And what of the reader? Is the reader evan necessary? A thought-provoking look into the mind (or minds?) of writer & character.

My only comment, other than that I have liked the earlier tales of Socrates Fortlow & most of Walter Mosley's work, is that I have not yet read this book but expect to & to enjoy it given WM's ability to tell a good tale especially about Socrates & his other characters - EZ Rawlins & the homicidal Mouse.
PS Why doesn't Spike Lee or Clint Eastwood make a few movies about these characters?

2000 AD: Prior to entry into Africa by outsiders? Seems a bit late for that, surely "outsiders" were there earlier?(3 of 8 readers found this comment helpful)
