Fire Season: Field Notes from a Wilderness Lookout by Philip Connors

Loved this book. Talks of nature, literature, the history of forest service, all topics that I am interested in. In fact, I found the history of fire fighting and how we manage our forest land so interesting that it led me to read "The Big Burn" which was another great read. I enjoy books that lead me to other books!

Junkyard Dogs (Walt Longmire Mysteries) by Craig Johnson

My favorite in the Walt Longmire series so far - it has many laugh out loud scenes in it! Johnson's depiction of the winter setting in Wyoming throughout February is so vivid that the weather practically becomes a character in the book. Ready to move on to the next book - hope that it is as good as this one.

Seaglass Summer by Anjali Banerjee

This is a great book for kids who love animals, however the stories that are told are not just the "warm fuzzies", animals also get hurt and die. This is an eye-opener for the main character, Poppy Ray, and may also be for some readers. Other serious subjects are also introduced such as being away from your family, racial discrimination, and forming mature friendships with members of the opposite sex. Many of these subjects are dealt with in humorous ways which makes them more accessible to younger readers.

Mr. Putter & Tabby Walk the Dog (MR. Putter & Tabby) by Cynthia Rylant

I love all the Mr. Putter and Tabby books, but this is my absolute favorite! Kids love them too. The series is perfect for developing readers, very readable yet have great story lines. Can't go wrong with Cynthia Rylant.

Border Songs (Vintage Contemporaries) by Jim Lynch

Quirky, sad, funny, and uplifting all at the same time. Just as he did in The Highest Tide, Jim Lynch weaves in beautiful descriptions of nature and the beauty around us as he creates a story of human relationships and all that comes with them. At times the despair in some characters' lives is hard to read because it is so real. The view of the world through Brandon Vanderkool's eyes is enlightening to say the least. I am glad he triumphs in the end and I believe most readers will feel the same.
