Sweeping Up Glass by Carolyn D. Wall
Sweeping Up Glass

RenRabWoman, January 2, 2011

It's been almost a year since I read this book, but I'm still telling people to get it. I convinced our public library to add it to their shelves. It's an excellent "coming-of-age" type story, but the person who is learning about life is the grandmother.
Fiction should enlighten fact. This book does that and has made me think of the fantasies interwoven into the facts of my own life. It's not an easy read for those of us who grew up in the 1960's, but it is worth the effort.

Getting Old Is Murder by Rita Lakin
Getting Old Is Murder

RenRabWoman, March 17, 2009

What do you take with you to Spring Break? May I suggest a book by Rita Lakin? "Getting Old is Murder" is an excellent beach read for those of us who have gotten tired of the paperbacks with a Fabio look-a-like or trying to find a stopping point for a Gresham novel!

The pace is quick, the murders intriguing, the quirky characters are very like your best friends in the real world. As Billy Crystal is quoted, "Let's face it. We all have the same five relatives."
