De Brunhoff's Babar encourages young readers to visit museums by establishing one of his own for young elephants. Any children's book that invites young readers to seek a broader educational experience is deserving of consideration. Babar has delighted youngsters for generations. Eric Carle has favored us yet again, this time with a delightful and accurate description of the life of a seed. Carle educates children without talking down to them. He seems to delight in their company. His colors are clean, crisp and pleasing to a young child's eyes. His story line is captivating and invites re-reading. Hurrah for Eric Carle. He certainly knows how to please children (and adults!).
