Leni Zumas's writing crackles. Her books are sharp, bleak, funny, and possibly dangerous. When her collection of short stories, Farewell Navigator,...

I recently received an Indiespensable order, my first one, as I open my package the first book I saw was "Shadow Tag" by Louise Erdrich. What a pleasant surprise as I started to read this wonderful, but sad story of a mixed Native-American family growing up in Minnesota.I was struck by the rich literature and cultural differences from how I grew up and how Native-Americans truly live. Not only was this beautiful story educating and, for me enlightening, it was heartfelt and sad. It's amazing what married couples can do to each other when they are suppose to be in love. My dad always said that marriage was a love-hate relationship and as long as you didn't kill each other when the hate appeared you might just make it. That's what this story was to me. Powell's has convince me that they care about their reader's and some way I will try to purchase their Indiespensable orders again and again. Thank you.

One of the most exciting books I've read in awhile. A page turner that will keep you awake into the night to finish this story that will probably be made into a movie with special effects and all that goes with Hollywood. Hang onto your seats. This story has that Tom Clancy style, with four stories happening at once. Of course, they come together in the end. This story has a SciFi plot, but to believe it your mind has to stretch a bit. Once you get pass that your on your way to a great read. One of the best books of the decade. Enjoy!
Dean Koontz's Breathless surprised the hell out of me. If he hadn't of had the first two chapters on his website I probably wouldn't have purchased the book. I'm glad I did. I think and I'm probably wrong that this is the first book that Dean uses a Clancy type story with each chapter telling someone else's story of how they will end up having something wonderful or horrible happen to them. I don't want to say what it is because, finding out is the part that's make this read so enchanting.
I've been reading so many Doom and Gloom books lately that it was so nice to read a book with such a happy ending. Also, there's dog in his story. Yes, Golden Retrievers and Irish Wolfhounds and a few others. You'll love it. I can't wait for you to find out.
Ben Bova's "The Return" from the "Voyagers" series is worth reading and since I've just spent half an hour typing a great review and my computer lost it all, I'm just going to say, buy the book or else your computer will do the same. Thank you, Mr. Richard Godsell
Michael Crummey is an author from Newfoundland. He's written a few books, but nothing that's I would call exceptional, but good reads. Until I read Galore was I so impressed by this young author. He belongs with the greats. What a story! It takes place on the shores of Paradise Deep, Newfoundland, during the late 19th. century. A whale beaches itself and the local residents start to tear it apart for food and oils for heating, when Widow Devine cuts open the belly and a naked man comes plopping out and the story can't get any weirder, Oh, but it does. So weird that you can't stop reading what will happen next and next after that. So, my friends, looking for a good read for the end of the summer? Pick up Galore by Michael Crummey. Sit back and let yourself be immersed in weirdness, because not only does the man live he smells like rotten fish and he's somehow gifted. Enjoy!
