I'd predict that 99 percent of the small talk in the staff elevator at my library involves the following question and its answers: "Are you reading...

The Round House by Louise Erdrich gets my vote for best book of 2012. I read this book and was blown away. At one point I thought I was reading her diary. That's excellent writing. If you haven't read this book, maybe it's time.
A year or so, I read "Lean on Pete" by Willy Vlautin. Naturally, when you love a book you want to see what else the author has written. It was recently, that I read "Motel Life" also, by Willy Vlautin. It was gritty, but very real and the book took you to a place that would make most readers uncomfortable. That's why I gave it a 4 star rating. But none the less, it's a book that is well written, interesting, and at times will make you uncomfortable when reading. Why? Because most of our live's we live in shelter, safe places. "Motel Life" will change that!
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is one the most fasinating books of 2011-2012 that I've read in a while and Powell's staff picked it for their "Indiespenceable Books". This book was a gripping and unusual fantasy and it was her first book. I can't wait until she writes another. Erin knows how to tell a story. You'll be up all night until you finish the last page. This my pick for best book of 2012. Of course, all the books on the list so far are great books. I've read several of them already and anyone of them could be the winner.
I'm not a big fan of James Patterson, but I love Marshall Karp. So, I thought I try this read out hoping for a good read. What I found was a great read. If your looking for a travel book this is the one. Short, exciting chapters and edge of your seat reading. Before you know it, you'll be at your destination. And, if your looking for more you can always pick up Biggs and Lomax stories by Marshall Karp. You won't be sorry.
Lately, I've been on a Young Adult reading kick. I guess I get tired of what Adult Fiction has to offer and look to this genue or it could be the nine year old living inside me. Whatever it is, I found The Emerald Atlas to be very exciting. This book has something for the young and the old. The story is about three orphans, Kate, Michael, and Emma being wisked away late at night by a friend of their parents and left at a home for orphans until the parents can come and get them. The children keep messing up their chances for adoption and are moved from one orphanage to another. Then the Mother-From-Hell decides to adopt them no matter what and the Journey begins. What a great read. I'm sure your inner child will love this book.
