Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
Steve Jobs

Richard Lobel, January 21, 2013

There is no doubt that Walter Isaacson knows how to write a biography. If you haven't read his books on Einstein and Franklin, and you have any interest in these men, you should. He does a great job in researching and an even better job in bringing out the humanness of his subjects.

Steve Jobs certainly has had a huge effect on the world as we know it now. Does anyone not know someone with an Apple product or who hasn't seen a Pixar movie? Reading of his background, his motivations, his demons, his delights, gave me a new perspective on the whole Apple history. Well worth the read even if it meant carrying a big and heavy book on the subway each day. I may give in a buy an e-reader yet.

My only complaint is that Isaacson has certain themes, certain issues and he comes back to them too often. I felt like I was hit over the head several times. I can see the theme without having it shoved in front of my face over and over again. Sort of like a TV show or movie that has a character narrating too much of it because someone is afraid the writing alone won't get the point across. Still, an excellent book about a very interesting, if not very nice, character who has had a profound effect on the world as we know it today.
