Rebooting the American Dream: 11 Ways to Rebuild Our Country by Thom Hartmann
Rebooting the American Dream: 11 Ways to Rebuild Our Country

Robert Stillman, January 1, 2011

Disclaimer: I have been listening to Thom since 2006 when he did the morning show on AM620KPOJ in Portland, Oregon my hometown. There is not a whole lot new for me in the book and of course I know the "Eleven Points" in the subtitle has historical significance. I am not about to reveal it now however.

I believe the fears readers have about his protectionist bent are understandable but ultimately unfounded. Thom and his wife Louise are far too progressive thinking. They are also not inclined to live in the past or hope for a return to the past simply by flipping a switch. They have owned several businesses and understand how business works today and how it did in years past.

The systematic dismantling of the New Deal is real. That mime is repeated over and over again in so may books of the last four or more years it is an accepted truth for those who have had their eyes open and know history.

In fact my summary would be that it you only want to read one or two books among the scores that are available then I recommend that Rebooting the American Dream be at the top of your list.
