Jack Kirby (Comic Book Creators - 6 Titles) by Sue Hamilton
Jack Kirby (Comic Book Creators - 6 Titles)

Rory Murray, February 21, 2008

While he only accepted the title jokingly, there is a good reason that Jack Kirby was, and still is "The King Of Comics". While he did not invent the Comic Book itself, he along with partners Joe Simon and Stan Lee created the "Marvel Universe".
Jack was the original artist for Captain America, Fantastic Four, The Hulk, The Avengers, The X-Men, Sgt. Fury & His Howling Commandos, Silver Surfer & Galactus, Black Panther and The Eternals for Marvel Comics.
For DC Comics, he created The Boy Commandos, The Newsboy Legion, The Guardian, The New Gods, The Forever People, Mister Miracle, Kamandi & O.M.A.C., as well as the sinister Darkseid.
He helped create the Romance and Western Comic. He also animated Popeye and Betty Boop for the Fleischer Studios...wow!
While Jack's artistic style was not always "anatomically correct", it crackles with endless imagination and energy. While there are many imitators, there is no mistaking a Jack Kirby original.
Having been graced by his presence a number of times, I can attest to the fact that Mr. Kirby cared deeply for his fans and remained accessible until the twilight of his brilliant life.
He passed away in 1994. His kindness and artistic genius continue to be celebrated and sorely missed to this day.

Tales to Astonish: Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, and the American Comic Book Revolution by Ronin Ro
Tales to Astonish: Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, and the American Comic Book Revolution

Rory Murray, February 19, 2008

The Comic Book Industry is a very tough business. Some creators couldn't make it. Some died trying.
This is a story of two creators that DID make it, and along the way gave the world an amazing array of cosmic characters that are as beloved today as they were over 45 (even 65!!) years ago.
Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's characters are not only integral to the Comic Book Industry but also the Film Industry as at least a dozen of the most recent blockbusters (Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spiderman, Daredevil, Hulk...) have spung directly from Jack's pencil and/or Stan's typewriter.
Stan Lee remains at 85 years a kid at heart and Marvel Comics "Goodwill Ambassador" and somewhat of a movie star, making cameos in all the afore-mentioned films.
Unfortunately, Jack Kirby passed away in 1994, but was well aware of how beloved he was by his fans and peers.
This is an amazing story of two amazing storytellers.
"Nuff Said!"

Kirby: King of Comics by Mark Evanier
Kirby: King of Comics

Rory Murray, February 19, 2008

To say that Jack Kirby was a genius is obvious. His artwork leaps from the page. He had a hand in creating not only classic Superheroes, but also the Western and Romance genre of comics. But what is less obvious is that Jack was also a kind and generous soul, who cared deeply for his fans and for the human condition.
Mark Evanier is the perfect and logical choice to tell the colorful history of "The King Of Comics", because he was there in person for much of it since the late 1960's! Mark is a wonderful storyteller and is (as Jack still is...) an integral part of Comic-Con in San Diego, CA.
I have personally been looking forward to this book for years now. As the "King" himself used to say..."Don't Ask! Just Buy It!!"
