A well-crafted thriller that at first appears to be about a very boring family. Paul can't stand his successful and smug brother, but they (and their wives) are meeting for dinner. As each course arrives, we readers also are fed: surprising tidbids, clues, background, family history. As we digest these insights and bits of information, we get more and more wrapped up in the family and what goes on behind closed doors. If you have ever said "I didn't see that coming," you will probably get hooked on this book. No wonder it is an international best-seller in more than twenty countries so far. I predict that it will be made into a movie very soon.
Housesitting and catsitting for a friend... what could possibly go wrong? It's a chance to catch up on reading and writing and perhaps a little sightseeing. Just don't spill anything on the wooden floors. Oh, and don't touch the piano. And no rings on the coffee table. A fun novel, compelling, amusing, tightly written, and surprising. I couldn't put it down.
